Why is ceremony important?
Ritual is one of the oldest human practices and we believe we are naturally ceremonial. We've always looked to ritual to make sense of change, mark significant thresholds, and witness each other through grief and joy. As more of us live outside religious or cultural traditions, we've lost many of the shared structures that once carried us through life's transitions.
The Ceremony School exists to restore our ritual literacy, teaching us how to create meaningful, personal ceremonies without a script. Whether you're marking your own milestones, supporting someone through a loss, or building a ceremonial practice to build your ritual muscles, our school gives you the tools, frameworks and community to do it with confidence.

How the school works
Our ceremony school is designed to help you learn in the way that fits your life.
- Join our live offerings to answer specific questions and connect with a community of folks from around the world.
- You can move at your own pace with our self-guided workshops. You can also gather with us at one of our virtual or in-person events.
- Step away from the everyday entirely and immerse yourself at an in-person retreat near Vancouver, BC.
- Members of Be Ceremonial (active subscription) have access to our Learning Environment, including pre-recorded workshops and ceremony interviews.
Meet your guide
The Ceremony School is led by Megan Sheldon — ceremony guide, ritual designer, and co-founder of Be Ceremonial. Many of our courses also welcome co-hosts and guest teachers who join Megan to deepen our shared learning, bringing their own practices and perspectives into the circle.
Megan Sheldon
Megan Sheldon (she/her) is a cultural mythologist, humanist celebrant, end-of-life doula, and co-founder of Be Ceremonial, the world's first guided ritual and ceremony platform. She is the author of Ritual Without Religion: A Humanist Guide to Creating Secular Ceremonies, and has spent years crafting ceremonies across the life cycle, with a focus on grief and the less visible moments of change and transition.
